RIVER MUSEUM AT NAZZANO
In some museums north of Rome, multimedia applications have been created. They are conceived to increment and disseminate the knowledge of the geological and historical evolution of the landscape in the medium Tiber valley, and they encourage people to visit some important and beautiful places. These applications support visitors while they are attending places, museums, sites, itineraries, providing cultural contents, narrations and 3D reconstructions. Technologies used are friendly and sustainable by local museums; the multimedia contents are rich and various, always developed to create an emotional experience, inside which visitors can feel immersed and can acquire educational contents through narrations, in a pleasant way.
For the River Museum of Nazzano a multimedia application has been developed, located on the 1st floor, where visitors can access 13 movies, both in Italian and in English. These movies present the actual landscape and its potential 3D reconstructions in different ages; beside, they tell stories about some specific sites: Lucus Feroniae, Volusii’s Villa, Tevere-Farfa Nature Reserve, Mount Soratte, Fara in Sabina, Farfa Abbey and other contexts of historical and natural interest. Each movie has a different duration, between 2 and 20 minutes.

LUCUS FERONIAE ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM
In the room dedicated to the Augusteum a multimedia installation is shown on a 32” monitor. This installation presents two movies: “Lucus” and “Volusii 's Villa". The video “Lucus” shows a possible 3D reconstruction of Lucus Feroniae colony in the Tiberian and Trajan periods. The main characters, that populate the ancient city, are actors shot in a virtual set.
The main theme is the cyclical time and the immortality, through the vision of the "spirit of the place". Feronia ancient Italic goddess, worshipped here before the Roman conquest, walks among the archaeological remains, recalling ancient memories. The movie presented here has no audio and offers just a visual narration. A longer version is accessible in the River Museum of Nazzano, where the reference is clearly to the silent cinema typical of the ‘20s of '900.
The movie dedicated to the “Volusii’s Villa” is also presented, combining real and virtual contents which alternate and overlap through the use of camera tracking techniques. The virtual reconstruction refers to the Augustan age.

NATIONAL ETRUSCAN MUSEUM
OF VILLA GIULIA, ROME, room n. 31
The great installation hosted in Villa Giulia is the most spectacular and advanced outcome of the project. It is a virtual reality application using gesture-based interactiona and visualized on three 65” aligned screens. It aims at creating a new evocative and narrative access to the territory of the Tiber middle valley.
The user lives a multi-sensorial experience interacting, through his/her body movements, inside 4 virtual scenarios, related to the different aspects of the Tiber Valley. Shifting from one avatar to another one he can: 1) swim like a fish, under the water of the Tiber, among the images and the sounds of ancient myths and past memories; 2) flying, like a bird, over the territory, traveling back in time to the geological evolution and the birth of the first cities; 3) visiting the Volusii Villa rebuilt in Augustan age, becoming thus a participant of the drama of Mena, a freed slave; 4) walking inside the Roman settlement of Lucus Feroniae rebuilt in the I-II cent. AD, interacting with its inhabitants and evoking the ancient presence of the Italic goddess Feronia.
Science, Technology and Art converge in the experimentation of a new language, overcoming the traditional paradigms of virtual reality to contaminate them with diverse techniques coming from cinema, theater, video games and augmented reality.

SOCIETA' GEOGRAFICA ITALIANA
VILLA CELIMONTANA, ROMA
The Italian Geographic Society (Società Geografica Italiana, SGI) is supporting the Virtual Museum of Tiber Valley, thanks to an agreement with ITABC CNR, since 2014.
The first preview of the spectacular virtual reality installation, permanently hosted at the National Etruscan Museum of Villa Giulia in Rome, was presented at Villa Celimontana, in occasion of the Festival of Travel Literature, from September to December 2014.
Currently the SGI hosts a perfect copy of the multimedia installation accessible in the River Museum at Nazzano. This installation allows to increase the knowledge of the territory of the medium Tiber valley and to promote the #MuViVaTe project in Rome.
At the conference room of SGI it's possible to attend workshops focused on the Tiber Valley Project, from data collection to the reconstruction of the archaeological landscape. These activities, for different target (also for the schools), are organized periodically by the ITABC CNR in collaboration with SGI and with the support of Forum Interculture association.
